By Firefighter/Medic Ginger Manifold
October 4, 2017

WHEREAS, the week of October 8 – 14, 2017, has been designated “National Fire Prevention Week;” and

WHEREAS, over 800 Calvert County Fire-Rescue-EMS volunteers are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the citizens and businesses in Calvert County, through many hours dedicated to fire prevention; and

WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern and personal dwellings are where Calvert County’s citizens are at greatest risk from fire; and

WHEREAS, the National Fire Protection Association has documented, through its research, that one out of every three house fires starts in the kitchen, which makes cooking the leading cause of house fires; and

WHEREAS, the preservation and continued success of Calvert County’s 100% Volunteer Fire-Rescue-EMS Departments is in the best interest of all Calvert County citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of County Commissioners of Calvert County that the week of October 8 – 14, 2017, be known as Fire Prevention Week in Calvert County. BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that all citizens are called upon to join us in continuing education, with the theme being, “Every Second Counts; Plan 2 Ways Out “is so important. It reinforces why everyone needs to have an escape plan; and heed the important safety messages of Fire Prevention Week 2017 and support the volunteers and their efforts.

Given under our hands and seal this 3rd day of October 2017.
