The Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Life Member Robert "Bob" Reeves. Mr. Reeves joined the department in 2003 at the age of 57 and has been an asset ever since. He retired from the Federal Government and found that he wanted to spend time helping the members of his community. He quickly became a driver of the utility trucks and the ambulances, as well as becoming a first responder. This was not enough for Mr. Reeves, as he wanted to help out any way that he could. This determination proved that no matter what age you may be, you can do anything you set your mind to. Mr. Reeves enrolled in Firefighter I at the age of 60. Of course, he passed this class and earned the respect of not only the members of this department but of the many others that were in the class with him. After this feat, Mr. Reeves took the necessary steps to become an engine driver. Mr. Reeves served on the constitution committee and was also a past member of the Board of Directors. When Mr. Reeves became ill, his passion for the department did not stop. He still attended meetings when he could and kept tabs on what was happening through his daughter Carrie. On June 2nd, Chief 3A and Sergeant Corliss were bestowed the honor of bringing Mr. Reeves home in the ambulance that he loved for the last time. Chief 3, Captain Dalrymple, and Sergeant Franklin were able to assist in getting him situated and comfortable at home. He was so appreciative to everyone for their kindness. Carrie wrote a letter on behalf of her father, asking for him to be considered for Life Membership. On July 12th, the members of the department did not hesitate to grant this request. In addition to Mr. Reeves' love of the department, he also enjoyed being out on the water. He loved to go boating and fishing. Mr. Reeves had an even bigger passion when it came to his family. Mr. Reeves is survived by his wife Julia Reeves, children Joseph Reeves and wife Wendy, Jennifer Reeves and husband David Miedzinski, Carrie Hedegaard and husband Dan, and grandchildren Joe, David Weston, Adam, Ryan, Sarah, and Robert, and Gracie a "Doggie Daughter". Mr. Reeves also had a huge fire department family at the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department. We are all thankful for the time that we had to spend with Mr. Reeves, and he will surely be missed.

Memorial Services for Robert "Bob" Reeves will be at 11am on Saturday, August 4th with public visitation from 10am to 11am at the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department. Mr. Reeves' will be cremated and his ashes are set to be dispersed on both the East and West Coast.

In lieu of flowers, family has asked that donations be made in Mr. Reeves' memory to Calvert Hospice, the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
