There are more than 350,000 EMS-assessed out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the United States every year but only about 40% of people who experience them receive the immediate help they need before EMS arrives. According to the American Heart Association Hands-Only CPR has been shown to be as effective in the first few minutes as conventional CPR for cardiac arrests at home, work or in public and can double or even triple a cardiac arrest victim's chance of survival.
